Early period of the Hungarian state

                                     - We want your taxes right now !!! -

Following the fall of the Great Moravian Empire (beginning of the 10th century), old-Hungarian tribes flooded the Slovak territory.  Unification of the tribes was made possible by Gejza of the Arpad dynasty, who introduced military organisation structure and began spreading the fundamentals of Christianity in Hungary. This way he laid the foundations of the Hungarian state and its later dominance under the reign of his son, the first Hungarian king Stephen I. The king Stephen was crowned on December 25, 1000 by the Pope Silvestre II. By that time, Europe had already been Christian - thanks to the influence of the faith bearers Cyril and Method, and their students. It was as early as in the 11th century when Trenčín became the most significant point of defence for the Hungarian kingdom. The early-feudal Hungarian state was both plunged into internal riots between the feudal lords and the king and the battles with the Tartars. The suffering population of today's Trenčín would quite often see enemy troops passing by the castle that often hindered their progress toward the Hungarian inland.
